Setup a print

To print from a Mac running OS X you must set the printer and paper size in the Page Setup dialog. This allows the Mac to know the capabilities of the printer, if this is not set it will be assumed that the printer is a basic black and white A4 model (generic postscript printer).

If nothing is set in the Page Setup dialog the Mac will format your page for 'any printer', this results in black and white A4 prints

Select the printer you will be using with the 'Format for' drop down menu. If the printer is not setup in Print Center the Mac assumes the printer is a generic postscript printer, this results in black and white A4 prints. If this is the case you need to setup the printer, instructions are available here. A list of network printers and their details is available here.

If the printer is setup correctly in Print Center the Mac will know the capabilites of the printer, the model of the printer will be shown in the page setup dialog.
